| Jan. 22nd, 2006 07:18 pm 5 Wierd Habits Ground Rules: The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 weird habits of yourself" and people who get tagged need to write an LJ entry about their 5 weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged.
1) If someone I don't really like expresses an interest that I also have, I'll pretend not to be interested in that particular thing.
2) I hit the alarm button several times right after setting it to make sure I really did set it for "am" and not "pm."
3) I have to put on pants or shorts before I put on my shirt.
4) I will think of things to do the next day just as I am getting into bed, but the next morning the ideas don't seem nearly as good.
5) Lately I refer to many things (my life in particular) as a "logistics nightmare."
I tag: If you read this and you haven't been tagged yet, you're tagged. I refuse to point.

| Sep. 1st, 2005 04:22 pm Maybe not the end, but definitely a change I posted this as a reply on A's post then decided it would be good enough to submit as my yearly LJ entry...
This is my prediction for what we'll be hearing soon...
"A fly sneezed in the backcountry of Australia, causing a fuel price spike of 30 cents per gallon, Bob."
Everything causes gas to go up. God knows we'll never search out and put into effect comething that would, gasp, make gas less expensive. Katrina or no Katrina, the "powers that be" play with us constantly.
My cousin lives in one of those "self-contained" communities in Huntersville near Lake Norman. He can walk two blocks to get groceries, go to the movies, etc etc. I think that is what the future probably is for us. Just look at many overseas cities. Fuel over there is crazy high, but everything's so centrally located, you can walk just about anywhere you need to go. If I could live without a car, man I'd be happy to. But this country is a little different, a little more spread out, and our government knows it. But will government, or anyone, step in and say "Whoa, there's gotta be a cap put on this someway or somehow"? No. Of course not. Those of us who could possibly get by without buying gasoline, should stop purchasing it. Of course everything else is going up, but gasoline is the major commodity being hit.
I've been thinking alot lately about how long it would take me just to walk here or there, and it's a scary but not impossible proposition. And it may be my future. I'm definitely not against it. Current Music: DCFC - Soul Meets Body

| Aug. 13th, 2005 09:55 am Another conversation snippet I heard this one at Tastee Freeze the other morning. Some lady who works there was talking to one of her co-workers.
"It's better to be short and be a woman than to be half a man."
Let your imaginations run wild on that one. I picture some guy's torso-less legs running around and yes, I'd say being a short woman would indeed be better. Current Mood: complacent Current Music: moody blues

| Jul. 23rd, 2005 01:03 pm An example of what we did in Business Law, 12th grade at Freedom I found some "songs" the other day in a bin under my bed at home. My friend Scott Winters and I "collaborated" on these in the back of class while everyone else slept thru People's Court. When I found these I literally laughed out loud.
"Steak Tar-Tar" in the tune of Ministry's "N.W.O."
Ich bin eine stupid fool! Ich esse some nasty food! Sky high with a butt in the air! Found in my steak many a hair!
Chorus near end--Gross steak tar-tar! (repeat several times)
Ate the steak, blood drip out das mouth! Choke on the steak, go down south! Use the toilet when you barf the steak! The meat makes you spasmically shake!
lyrics-winters music-winters vocals-winters guitars-edge keyboards-winters drums-jack-O. mellotron-edge ______________________________________
Massive Bean (Vasoline)
One time the lunch in here was served it sucked and it bit nuts Took a piss and tried to take one home...
1st chorus--Isn't you, isn't me, lets all feast on the massive bean Going blind, cannot see, damn that massive bean!
Two times and it has sickened me, bean drunk and without crepes that bean is really gross.
Massive, massive beans we are, sometimes it blows my job keep getting sick here all the time
2nd chorus--You'll pee the brook and you'll see the brie, you'll see the brie, and bean!
more to come... Current Mood: amused Current Music: bluegrass

| Apr. 30th, 2005 09:26 pm Conversation Snippets Anyone who has skimmed my previous LJ posts knows I have a thing for overhearing snippets of conversations and posting them here, on LJ, out of context. This one is from Merlefest earlier today.
"You might have a soft one, but if it's pretty big..."
I heard that as I walked the other way past two early-senior-age men, and that's all I heard.
My assignment to all you readers is....Come up with the end of this sentence, and if you're feeling snappy, add a couple more!
Other than that, Merlefest was lots of fun. The Avett Brothers were my favorite. Their energy and creativeness made it worth the trip. If only my back wasn't wrenched--that made getting up and walking around--even driving there--rather difficult. I woke up this morning with the beginnings of a head cold, so I'm sure I'll feel crummy for a few days. But I'm glad I went. The music was good, the food as good, and I didn't smell any patchouli thank God. I bent my ignition key really badly. I stopped at a convenience store to re-leave myself and when I came back to start the car, the key was turning but I had to really muscle it. Turns out the switch wasn't turning--the key was bending. It still works, but it's about 45 degrees off now. Thank goodness others exist so I can make a copy before it breaks off and strands me.
Back to the term papers that bind me.

| Dec. 28th, 2004 08:54 pm Asia Tidal Wave It took maybe one hour for fifty plus thousand people's lives to be taken, thousands more to be changed forever. Things like this make me realize that my worries are a bit petty. I mean, no one saw it coming, and you can't live on "what-if street," so to say, but be sure and tell the people you love, that you love them. And work on loving the people you don't.

| Dec. 5th, 2004 10:12 pm Something I've never done...until Friday Except for the time I was with Big A...but this is my own car...anyway
I ran out of gas. Luckily, it happened as I was pulling into the gas station parking lot. I stopped next to the pump and realized that the car had died.
But wow--103 miles on 5 dollars of gas...maybe 3 gallons at most? That's pretty good, near impossible especially having a V6. And the tank was reading below E when I put the previous $5 in.
Guess I should stop complaining about poor gas mileage. Current Mood: rushed Current Music: none

| Nov. 27th, 2004 12:39 am Ah, Christmas Had a good time tonight. Erin and I went up to Big A's to decorate the tree. As usually happens, I had the pleasure of crawling under the house; this time not running speaker wire, but resetting the furnace. We got it running only for a few seconds, but the house seemed to stay pretty warm. We discovered we had only half a tree's worth of lights so off to town we went. I got to drive Aaron's new Chrysler limo, I swear the back seat is 10 feet away when you're up front. Drives good, rides good....nice car. We made our way over to CVS where we picked up some more lights, a topper, and some of those god-forsaken-but-ya-gotta-love-em icicles. Once back at A's place we finished up the tree and relaxed in front of the telly for some good ol classic Frosty the Snowman. What a good time. Would have liked to stick around for the Garfield Christmas special, my personal favorite, but how time flies. We'll see that one next time!

| Nov. 21st, 2004 08:49 pm A very long survey, enjoy Religious affiliation?: Christian, but too open minded to participate actively
On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being EXTREMELY confident it DOES exist, and 1 being EXTREMELY confident it DOES NOT exist, answer the following questions/statements.
1. Leprechauns who live in Ireland: 1, I feel leprechauns are creatures of fantasy
2. A form of consciousness higher than our own: I feel like higher consciousness is a branch of our own consciousness, in a sense. 5
3. A soul or spirit: As in when we die, part of us goes on, yes--an "ageless" aspect, physically speaking. 10
4. Crystals/pyramids/gemstones that have healing powers: I'm not sure, my instincts tell me most of this is wishful thinking, but I'm not against those who believe in this-1
5. Astrology that can accurately predict one's future: Personally, I don't want to know my future until I get there, so for me, 1
6. Mental telepathy [ESP]: It's a cool concept, but from my point of view, I'd rather just communicate openly with someone--but if it really happens, neato-3
7. Believing something happened when it never did: I'm more likely to believe something didn't happen when it really did-1
8. One's ability to manipulate small objects with mind power: 1
9. Psychic healing: Maybe, but I'm against going to psychics for answers to questions we already "know"-2
10. A supernatural, supreme being: Yes, but saying it's God as in what we are taught in church is oversimplification--I believe there's more to it than that-7
11. Precognition, or knowing what will happen in the future: Once again, this may hold true for some, but I don't want to know my future until I get there-1
12. Witches who can cast spells/make incantations: For me, this ranks right up there with sending all your money to televangelists. No offense, to me it's all wishful thinking-1
13. Clairvoyance or remote viewing (see what is out of sight): It's called Object Permanence; but it's more like "knowing something is still there" when it is out of sight-my view anyway-1
14. Other lifeforms living on other planets: There HAS to be something up there, right? I just don't think it's what we usually think of when we think of aliens-7
15. Spirit or demon possession: I've seen it on TV, but it sure was cheesy-3
16. Animals such as the Loch Ness Monster: nah, Abdominal Snowman-1
17. The moon/planets' positions having an effect on human behavior: Yea, but we have control over it; no werewolves-6
18. Certain rituals/behaviors that really do protect people from harm: Behaviors? Avoidance is a good behavior to protect from harm-6
19. A human soul surviving death, going into some sort of afterlife: As complex as humans are, there should be an afterlife if there isnt-7
20. Time travel [any direction]: In the form we are now? I don't think our bodies could handle it. 1
21. An aura which some people can see/sense: eh, I think most of this is imagined, explanations always seem to unspecific to be genuine-1
22. Changing one's heartrate/etc. with meditation: I thought it said medication at first. I never meditate, but I can change my heartrate by thinking about different things-7
23. Other lifeforms who have kidnapped Earthlings: Just another basic fear of humans-1
24. Rocks that have spirits that can possess humans: If a rock just made me laugh, I give it a 10
25. White magic or Wicca that can tap supernatural forces for good or healing: I feel like Wicca is just another term of affiliation, of course that goes for alot of things for me. 1
26. An eventual scientific explanation for ALL psychic experiences: Maybe someday, but I tend to downplay psychic experiences anyway-3
27. A supernatural, evil being, commonly called the Devil: I firmly believe that bad things just "happen" to us just as good things or regular things. It's just the danger associated with our world, mainly technology. 1
28. Homeopathic remedies that can heal better than medical methods: As in herbs? Sure, we need to get back to this-10
29. Near death experiences: I've heard alot about them, and I tend to believe they really happen; they just get misinterpreted - 10
30. EVERYONE having the capacity for mental telepathy: I would have to do some research into this field before making a valid comment, but right now it doenst hold water for me-1
31. A devil who will eventually defeat God: In the battle of good vs evil, good always wins. Well, sometimes. 1
32. Some people's ability to gain information about a person by handling their belongings: If I had someone's bank statement, I'd know a hell of alot. 1
33. Spirits of the dead [ghosts, angels] that can become involved with our world: Maybe so, maybe not. neutral
34. Black magic or voodoo which has supernatural effects on people: Just a scare tactic-1
35. Subliminal perception or subconscious knowledge: 10.
36. Astral projection: I don't know what this is/no answer
37. Numbers that can have supernatural properties: Lottery numbers maybe-1
38. Tarot cards' abilities to provide information about our lives and/or the future: I had the cards read for me once, but it was just to general and unspecific to be genuine-1
39. A devil directly involved with the world: Again, just an excuse people use for bad experiences-1

| Dec. 31st, 2003 01:10 pm For New Year's, here's what I will do (or would if I could): For Erin: Take away her parents' constant struggle with money; for one so she could get a car to get back and forth to school or babysitting when I have to work; assure her that her hopes and dreams are not too far flung and will be achieved in time
For Ellen: Listen to her, understand her as best I can, and be there for her whenever she needs someone
For Katie: Just be stupid so she'll have something to laugh about/at
For Big A: Change his body so it wouldn't know disease and struggle
For Will: Assure him that going to State will be the answer to whatever financial/bored with Morganton problems he may have; also find happiness for his mom, and sister and her family/kids
For Amie and Noah: Take away the stress of looking for/mortgaging a house; assure them that all will work out in time and it will be worth it when it does
For me: Put on some good music, close my eyes, and relax. For a minute or two, anyway :-)
For everyone else: You tell me. Anything I can do?
Cheers, everyone. Let's love each other for who we are, not hate each other for past decisions and actions. Happy 2004!!

| Nov. 18th, 2003 02:18 am Over the past few days... I've learned that my folks aren't quite the easy-going people I always thought they were. Things have gotten to the point that the thought of going to their house makes me cringe with dread. There's never any conversation directed towards me other than Bible trivia, job/employment criticism, or just plain displeasure about what is "wrong" with my life. When I think about it, it has been this way for quite a while. I'm not sure why it is just now beginning to wear on my nerves. Don't get me wrong. I feel like I have great parents. I just wonder where they went and where the two people who took over their bodies came from.
It gives me a sickeningly satisfying (read:good) feeling thinking about the days to come when they won't know where I am, what I'm doing, and will have no way whatsoever to contact me. It makes me shiver with delight. I smile to myself now just picturing them ripping their own hair out trying to figure out why I won't call or write. 1 comment - Leave a comment | |

| Sep. 9th, 2003 01:04 pm Just a cool song I heard... AVALANCHE AMINOS
Give him hope, Give him progress, Give him time.
Sell him communion Dream angels telepathy It's an item of appropriate backing, regardless of enemies.
Things are fine beneath your zodiac sign; The dancing monsters have all gone home to bed to find their secret hideaways. (I think that part is really descriptive and cool)
If this is the reason That I have no recall, Let each man have his fuss. It's not a thing. You think you can run But you know you must fall; Ever spiralling down, Afraid forever.
It fazes me slightly; It dazes me nightly; But these things won't hurt me, And I feel like a completely different person Current Mood: creative Current Music: Guided By Voices - Avalanche Aminos

| Sep. 8th, 2003 12:48 am Went to the mountain today Standing next to Stone Mountain is truly a spiritual experience. Climbing it is something truly amazing I'm sure. I looked up at it only to feel like I'd get up there, look down, and lose everything I'd eaten for the past few days. I will crawl up that monster one day, if only to conquer my own greatest fear. | Mar. 24th, 2003 12:26 am Farewell to an old friend It's easy for me to remember September 12th, 1987. There you stood in the back of dad's truck enjoying all the attention you were getting from that group of kids. I walked up and scratched your head while asking dad "Whose is it?" "It's yours!" he told me. And for the next 15 years you proved to be an awesome, loyal friend. I remember so much. The way you whined those first few nights you had to stay outside alone; the time you ate the cars that came with the race track i got for Christmas; the time you knocked my ice cream cone out of my hand before i even got a bite; the time you wanted to ride in Mark's Monte Carlo so badly you jumped up on the roof and refused to come down; the time you ran off the back porch, around the bush, and straight into dad while he was lying there on his patio recliner asleep; I remember all those walks you took with me down the street, how you chased the deer as they tried to get a bite to eat in the garden, and how just the other day I lifted you out of the truck after you enjoyed one of your favorite things, riding around town.
I'm sorry I wasn't here to see you off. You were buried facing Table Rock. Mom and Dad didn't know I was up there when you were called out, but maybe you did. Thanks for all of the good times, and thanks for being my friend. I have lots of pictures of you, but even if they are lost someday, the memories will never fade. 15 years....you saw me grow up; you were here quite a while, but it doesn't seem that long looking back. I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the other side, I know you're out there making some new buddies and chasing the birds and squirrels like you always did. And I really hope there'a a big green Chevy truck up there for you to take rides in. I miss you, and always will. Echo, arrival September 12th 1987, departure March 22nd 2003.
